Im always amazed by the level of ignorance concerning SN. Im still up as ds has ASD&ADHD, he is really struggling with the holidays...sleeping has gone to pot, as has eating, his obsessions etc etc

Anyway i was reading MN in bed and came across this thread in Chat basically saying ADHD is down to poor parenting blah blah blah...

In RL i tend to ignore the snidy comments etc when we are our and about but that thread just made my bloody blood boil!!

Are people really so ignorant?
How do other parents deal with ignorance in RL? I tend to pick my battles or ignore it but im starting to feel like, why should i ignore it?
How far have these judgey pant people pulled their judgey pants up!!??

Try "keep staring. You might cure my child's autism. Then we can work on your social skills"

I saw it on fb

It annoys me to. My dd has dcd and I get the same crap too.

Is this a recent thread?

It's frustrating, I agree.

I waded in a bit, as this thing really annoys me. I don't expect any deletions, however, I am going to request that MNHQ pulls the thread.

"There are therapies out there that mean my son's ASD can be mitigated, shame there's no known cure out there for petty small minded ignorant bigots. "

Yup I do say it in RL nowadays. Their daughters are usually only children and my son's ASD bluntness offends their sensibilities summat chronic. Mentally I now have them in the same category as the awful chavvy "pitbull" owners you also need to avoid in inner city local parks together with the street drinkers. You get so you can spot the "judgey pants" a mile off and swerve to avoid. There's a specific type of only child girl (violet elizabeths in my mind) that I KNOW my son will never marry cos of the awful potential MIL Wink

Interesting how some start off implying (or outright saying) that it's mostly parents fault and most children dx'd don't really have it, then when you call them on it, they backtrack and backtrack and claim "oh no, I never said that.."

Yup. Whatever. (and yes. I've been told numerous times that's rude to say. You can see how I'm worried about it. Grin)

Yep, ignorance is high. One of my friends put on her facebook status that a pregnant lady was parked in a blue badge space with no badge displayed. I replied saying I hate it when people do that. Now there are a load of replies from people who think they have the right to park in a blue badge space when they are pregnant. What?!?! Also people who say, "I know what it's like for you, my cousin/neice/uncle/dog has SN". Unless you care for them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, then no you don't. Sorry about that, ignorance gives me the rage Grin.

I don't know what it's like to have a child with ASD or ADHD (DS2 and DS3 have something else) but I can imagine it's extremely hard.
