Splints for cp. What do you put under them??

My wee boy is 20 months and just got splints. Been told to put long socks on below them, but as he is a size 4.5 I can't find long socks for him. Every shop seems to start at size 6 with long socks.

Any advice on what else to use or where I can get socks that size?

We used tube socks - (a long time ago) but now you may be able to find exactly what you want on amazon (knees socks for childen). Thin cotton tube socks worked for us.

We just used short socks under ds's splints and had no problems.

When he was little we used the triple roll socks from Gap, unrolled they came up long enough. Then we progressed to M and S school socks but recently I have forked out for £10 a pair of special AFO socks. I got them from www.sensorysmart.co.uk they are great but for a 20 month old I would try the gap socks first. (DS is now 7 and starting to get smelly feet!)

I either by a size bigger than ds needs, or go to polarn o pyret to get their winter knee length socks - hopefully just about to go back into stock. My DS started at a size 3 with his splints and they certianly had them small enough last winter.

Thanks. Hopefully with all your help I will get something. He is using the tube bandage the hospital supplied under them just now, but it is fraying away as we speak!

Just learning all these new challanges...

might not be relevant, (as he is adult Grin) but my dh who wears AFOs uses tubigrip and then short socks on top over his foot, we can replace the tubigrip when it frays/tears...just a thought.

Hi, dd wore short socks that normally would be folded/rolled down, by unfolding long enough to wear under splints. Bought them in mothercare I think, probably need to look in girls section not sure if same style sold in boys section. Struggled to find long socks, finally got some in John Lewis (expensive) and some in mothercare (bit big).

BHS did some long socks in small sizes when ds2 was small, in the winter we used football socks but really cheap ones (not any particular club) as they are thinner than proper club ones.
Also Gap baby sock were great unfolded.
