Flying with ASD child - anyone used airport assistance?

Flying soon from East Midlands to Alicante and have just requested special assistance through the airport from East Midlands and Alicante. East Mildlands have so far been fantastic and have sorted out fast track checkin and security, Alicante have an online request system which looks good I will have to see if they deliver what they promise!

Anyone have any first had experience or tips?

Yes, we did. They provided a wheelchair (although ds doesn't use one at all normally, has no physical probs at all) and it was helpful, meant he could just sit with his hands over his ears and zone out, and we waited with just a few other people who needed assistance somewhere quiet while all the boarding kerfuffle went on.
Worked really well, although he's now too nervous to try it again. Also he was INSISTENT that he wanted a wheelchair for his birthday/ Christmas/ whenever for about a year later Grin

thanks for posting about this. We have been seriously debating about taking DS back on a plane. Last journey was horrendous as he does not do queues! However sounds like the special assistance may be a plan!

We used it at Gatwick in January. It was so helpful.

We didn't even need to queue with the passports to get back in at Gatwick. He just drove the little buggy to the front Grin

We will do this every time now.

what about waiting at the gate though? Or do you time it to arrive just as the plane is being called
