Just read another thread and ds makes noises when frustrated, angry or anxious.
DS makes growling sounds, raspberry blowing, whistles and can repeat words normally bad words they I don't like to mention. Poo poo is a very common one but some words are much worse. Headmistress wonders if he has tourettes as well but this only comes out when really angry the tourettes that is. Would really be interested to know if is this typical of asd? larsxx

My ds makes noises that sound weird, like a loud hissing noise- he calls it his dragon fire noise.
But remember lars, he,s not asd so they say

My ds growls when he is angry, a strangled throat sound when pacing, humming which gets louder as it goes on, generally talks in a very loud voice anyway.

Ds1 sometimes makes repetitive noises, usually as a form of comfort. It's usually a kind of "eeh-eeh-urrh" noise. (Not easy to type! :o)

dd2 does a low hum. and mieows, and barks. in fcact she is rarely quiet. she also has a seies of sounds that go like 'EEEEEEEEEK, (jump jump) eek, (twirl) EEEEEEEK (HANDS FLAP) but only on days when she is on overdrive.

emmalou78 · 06/03/2006 20:39

on the subject of noises, do any of your little ones sing? well, baa baa baa their way through tunes? elijah sounds like the Scatman some days, that combined with his low growl, humming, babbling teh shaes of words, echolia and echopraxia he's NEVER quiet... last night I forgot to give him melatonin, so for an hour dp had a grinning growling ds2 rasping naa naaaght [ like a 3 foot, gorgeous, papa lazarou]

My dd makes funny noises too. Hums, eeks, grinds teeth, growls. etc. Talks to hereself over and over again repeating the same thing but makes no sense.

It's funny as she was up really early yesterday morning and meking the eek sound and I said to dh I swear she has tourettes. It drives me up the wall. Thankfully the teeth grinding (touch wood) has stopped!

misdee · 06/03/2006 21:09

oh i hate the teeth grinding. dd2 even does it in her sleep and i can hear it my room. its horrible.

sphil · 06/03/2006 22:17

DS2 makes a horrible old man throat clearing sound - makes heads turn in shops!

macwoozy · 07/03/2006 09:01

My ds makes noises all the time. One of them is a kind of tutting whilst humming, very strange, the other sounds guttural, he doesn't even realise he's doing it half the time.

mamadadawahwah · 07/03/2006 10:04

My boy makes a guh guh gulping sound. Apparently this is common, at least in other kids i know with asd. I suppose for pre verbal kids, they are experimenting with their voices.

Ds2 sort of makes a drunken man talking sound when he is eating or excited. You can't make out any words but it sounds like there might be some in there somewhere.

amynnixmum · 07/03/2006 16:40

Ds growls at people when he's stressed or angry.

Davros · 07/03/2006 23:06

DS has a lot of verbal stims unrelated to anger or anxiety. They change a lot but he has been doing "the homing device" for a couple of years. Thank god he moved on from "the donkey"!
