What exactly classes as babbling?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me with what counts as babbling? I have had different answers from 2 doctors & this seems to be a bit of a grey area (we are yet to see speech & language, who would be able to answer this!). So I am not sure if my son is babbling or not!

Is it making vowel or 'word like' sounds eg: ahh, ohh. Making vowel and constenant sounds eg: Ah boo, Ah goo. Or does it have to be a repetative constenant eg: Mamamama, babababa????

Many thanks!!

IM unexpert O, it's making random sounds using ANY learnt sounds, vowels or consonants. DS2 (6, NV, ASD) babbles a lot and his babbles include the sort of throat clicks normally only learnt in rare african and south pacific languages and all sorts of voice modulation and squeals.

Thanks - I was hoping someone would say that! If it was repetative constenants then we have a LONG way to go!

A friend of mine's son also did the throat clicks for a little while.
