nanny for sn child

I have a friend with an 8 yr ds with sn. He hits himself quite badly when upset and other people. She also has another dc who is 10. Friend has some respite care for overnight and help from ss. Her ds is in a special school.

She is currently at her wits end because she works and has lost her nanny. She has advertised on gumtree but can't find anyone suitable. Does anyone have any ideas on best place to find a lovely nanny who could do this job well?

Many thanks

Hi. I would think about using an agency. They would probably be able to provide a temp nanny whilst looking for a permanent one. Is more expensive than gumtree with agency fees and probably have to pay higher hourly/weekly rate. Also try posting in the childcare section. HTH

I work in a special secondary school and most of the TAs do babysitting/child minding/nannying for parents of pupils in the evenings/weekends/holidays to make extra money. If she's not looking for too many hours that could be an option? Has the benefit of being familiar with him and his needs and being able to collect him from school.

That's an idea. In reality she needs after school, holidays and fortnightly hospital appointments so that could work. Thanks a lot.

I last advertised for a nanny on the Jobcentre website which is free - got lots of applicants including some really good ones; though filtering, interviewing and checking references is time-consuming, I found exactly the right one for DS.

also SNAP is an agency that specialise in SN nannies and carers www.snapchildcare.co.uk, I have used them myself and didn't end up going with their candidate but found them easy to deal with.
