Gz on getting the diagnosis Bochead, seems to take so dam long, only just got referal to diagnostic team (is it ccsd? hate acronyms Confused) though DS has been on the radar since before he was 2.

Sounds hectic for you Moose and I am so gna be stealing the passport idea for ds's transition Ineed Wink

Been ok here although DS did decide to snap his glasses in half at school on thursday, little toerag, I'm gna look on the bright side of that and say at least it wasn't another child he lost his temper with :P. magso · 06/07/2012 19:56

Hi, may I join in? I don't usually because by Friday I am so shattered its a struggle not to fall asleep in my tea!
Moose, sorry you have had a difficult time. I use a series of cheap plain many sectioned expanding files from Tesco, with a handle on top to carry like a briefcase. They look quite smart but as they only expand up to about 1.5 inches I suspect combound volumes would need a larger case file to fit in.
Ellen best wishes for that job- and I dread homework too - it takes so much ingenuity to get ds to 'join in' since without me it would be ignored ( and ofcourse he cannot read it anyway).
Bochead well done at getting as far as a diagnosis and a hug for the finallity of it. We have had a bit of bother with the statement and a difficult year 7- so upsetting I dare not tell you. I have been unwell so simply did not have the energy to go to appeal. Even at SN school the wording matters. I think it is beginning to be resolved now, although the new school remains disapointing. I hope you do a better job than we did Starfish. Creatovator those skates look fun! I have enough trouble in flat shoes nowadays. Ds would like to see Ice Age 4 too Atilla. Ds(12) and I watched the original one afterschool a couple of days ago together - I had forgotten just how gently funny it is.
We hope to get to see the torch relay at the weekend. Other than that I just want to do nothing (some hope!). Role on the holidays ( ds is calmer in the holidays).
Hope you all have a good week end.

magso · 06/07/2012 20:03

Sorry cross posted cos I'm too slow - a whole page went by! Welldone Lollipop!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/07/2012 20:07

Hi chuckles. Great news about the play date. These things are so important! Smile

Magso, I'm really sorry the school has been such a disappointment. Sad We were both on the SN secondary transition thread last year, it seems so long ago. I hope things are properly sorted for your DS now. For some reason, I expect SSs to know better. Hmm

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/07/2012 20:21

Hi to everyone. Sorry I don't think I can remember everyone's news but
Lollipop many congratulations on the degree and on being a 'first'.
Moose sorry things are still not good. I sympathise on the paperwork front. I need to get organised for DS's transition to post-16 and it is just hitting me how appalling bad the filing is.
Bochead so glad that you have got a diagnosis at last. It is unbelievable how long it has taken.
Ds has had two trips to London this week. One to the Maudsley which I have posted about elsewhere and one to receive his 'Diana' award at Canary Wharf. DH went with him for that one and they had a good time. Ds was really excited and pleased with himself. The only downside was that a friend of his from school who was getting an award in a different category and who is a wheelchair user couldn't get onto the platform. And this is in spite of the organisers being well aware of his needs and assuring the school that the venue was fully accessible!

moosemama · 06/07/2012 20:41

Hi Magso, lovely to see you here. I don't think we've caught up with each other in quite a long time. So sorry to hear you were too unwell to appeal and that your ds has had a horrible y7. Sad We are just appealing ds1's statement after intially deciding I couldn't cope with it health wise. I'm not looking forward to it at all, as am holding on by the skin of my teeth here already. I completely lost it the other day when dh called as I was just so exhausted and stressed out I really didn't feel like I could get through the rest of the day. Bless him he took an early lunch and came straight home, fed dd and me and made me a cuppa, before having to scoot off again.

NoHaudin, I haven't seen the Maudsley thread. Hope it went well and they are going to be able to work with your ds over the summer. Congratulations to him on getting his Diana award but Shock and Angry at the lack of wheelchair access for his friend. Angry

Badvoc · 06/07/2012 21:26

Hi all
Ds2 still poorly
Now ds1 seems to be coming down with it too /(
Da1s end of term report was good...very good really. He has made great progress this year.
Am very tired.
Off to bed I think....

signandsmile · 06/07/2012 21:27

Hi all, I haven't been around for a week or two... headless chook with my course, but first year has been passed Grin. and my own students seem to be getting on well...

found out (by accident) Angry this week ds doesn't have his lovely TA next year... Sad Sad but I think the person they have for him will be ok (Hope..)

Ds is booked in for the ASD group once a week in hols (two more weeks of school) and we also have a place on the disabled children's swim once a week too, so am looking forward to it...

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/07/2012 21:28

thanks Moose Maudsley thread seems to have disappeared. Basically he isn't going in over the summer because there will be no psychologist from the OCD team available to work with him. As he has GCSE practical assessments first half of next term which he couldn't possibly do at the hospital school they have agreed to admit him after October half term. Since that is so far away the local psychologist is going to have another go at working with him intensively over the summer. We may also get support with the evening routines from a new team being set up to support children with complex needs but not until August/September. DS did really well at the meeting, speaking up about his needs and wants and how his OCD affects him even with 4 professionals in the room. Previously he has just shut down or even curled up in a ball in such situations.
I am sorry your health is so bad at the moment and that you have to deal with tribunal on top of it. Have you thought of asking for help from SS? I'm pretty bad at the moment too and did ask at the meeting for some immediate support as I feel I am really not coping.

moosemama · 06/07/2012 21:44

Hmm, that seems to be happening a lot lately, one of mine went missing for 24 hours not long ago and I saw someone else complaining the same had happened to their thread earlier. Confused

You must be disappointed that they can't work with him intensively over the summer - October seems like a long way off. Well done him for coping with and speaking to a room full of 4 professionals, I'm not sure I could have do so well in such a daunting situation.

I don't think I'm bad enough to need SS's help at the moment. I'm very lucky to have a great dh and really supportive Mum, so we muddle through ok and I was told we should qualify for a legal caseworker from one of the SEN charities for the appeal, due to my health issues, so fingers crossed that comes through ok. It does feel like a cascade of one bit of bad luck after another, pretty much on a daily basis at the moment. Trying to hang onto the fact that it can't go on like this forever, so will have to level out soon.

Sorry to hear you are still struggling though, do you have any support you can call on? Were they able to offer you any more immediate support?

magso · 06/07/2012 21:47

Sorry you are having to deal with an appeal Moose. (I am a lot better than I have been) We went for negotiations for ds moving up statement, got all our requests accepted only for the statement to be issued without the modifications and appendixes because the LEA officer left suddenly without adiquate paper work. Think it is sorted now.
NoHaudin that is a long wait! Good that your son was able to state his needs - well done him.
Signandsmile well done on passing your course. Ds like swimming so have got him 3 sn club sessions with swimming. Its much more fun in a group - I always get so cold.
Sleeptight Badvoc and all.

moosemama · 06/07/2012 21:55

Glad you are feeling a bit better magso.

What a nightmare with your ds's statement. Honestly the incompetence of these people beggars belief doesn't it. Glad you managed to get it sorted though.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/07/2012 22:54

Don't know yet if any support will be forthcoming but felt I had to ask. Relatives are all in Scotland/N.Ireland (we are in SW England) and DH has his own issues. Hope things improve soon Moose and Magso.
