i really hope no-one minds me starting this and so early but i can't shout this out where i am...

YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!

That useless article of a SENCO is far far behind us as DD left her primary school today, never to return.

Wine in the fridge, DH on his way home and i'm a very relieved parent

anyone else about for a virtual party with me?

Ooh! Do you want a laugh??? It was my birthday last week and I got some money which I've used to buy roller skates. I've not been skating since I was about 10 yrs old and I'm in my 40s now, but I used to love it and it's part of my getting fitter campaign Grin. I've had a go too - nearly went on my kneck in front of my neighbour Blush.

UnChartered · 06/07/2012 17:25

brilliant present for yourself!

are they really flash or strap-onto-your-shoes style Grin

I've always used lever arches as well historically, but I'm thinking if I need to be taking a lot of this stuff to meetings with me, I need something more professional looking/smarter really.

The problem I have at the moment with the lever arches is that the LEA comb binds everything, so then I can't file them effectively, as a result I had all the latest stuff in a box file, hence the errant letter.

I was hoping there was some miracle product out there I'd missed, but realistically I suppose I'm going to have to run a lever arch system alongside an expanding file to keep track of everything. Right pita to cross reference everything though.

UnChartered, do you have a posh one you can take out and about? I was looking at the plastic carry type ones, but think I would feel (and look) more in control and effective in meetings (or tribunal hearings) with something more business like. I know I used to have a leather one way back when I was working. Wouldn't really go for leather now (veggie principles) but maybe a good faux leather?

moosemama · 06/07/2012 17:32

Oo creatovator - very Olivia Newtron-bomb in Xanadu! Grin

Is now a good time to tell you I broke my coccyx twice skating in rollerboots that were incredibly similar to those back in the 80s? Wink

creatovator · 06/07/2012 17:34

Moose have you thought of just scanning everything onto your laptop. That would look really efficient and professional.

Unchartered Ha, ha! No, but guess I could knit myself some Grin.

creatovator · 06/07/2012 17:35

x posted Moose. No, don't tell me that Shock

UnChartered · 06/07/2012 17:36

nope, mine is plastic, gawdy and is totally 'DD' - i chose it because it reminds me of her, the sides and back is all one colour, the flap over the front is busy and beautiful

DS got a diagnosis this week - just waiting now for the paperwork to arrive. To my utter shock they've diagnosed him ASD (sarc!)

Those of you who have been following my story will know just how loooong it's taken for the professionals to conclude the bleeding obvious - that kid just ain't wired quite right Wink Hopefully the intermittent attacks on my parenting will finally stop as that's been the hardest part of being a single parent for me over the last few years - the constant undermining of EVERY attempt I made to help my child.

It's prob too late to access any ASD playschemes for this year, but could be really helpful for the future that he now meets the damn criteria to access leisure activities in our area for ASD kids. My next wee job is to research & see what I can sneak him into at this late notice Grin

Unchartered - I still pinch myself sometimes at just what a difference 1 year at a good school has made - here's to hoping you'll experience similar.

insanity - that flour baby nonsense would drive me nuts.

ellen - you gotta get the job! TA's like you are like gold dust.

alison22 - and they couldn't have given you a little more notice? Angry

Here's hoping poor gladheart has had a productive session with Daphne Keen today

creatovator · 06/07/2012 17:53

Bochead - Finally! That's fab news! Would crack open the Wine, but going to be driving later.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/07/2012 17:53

Love the roller skates. Had some like those, but red, white and blue when I was 16, huh hum years ago! Where are they now, I wonder?

Hope things improve for you all, moose. Sad

Bochead, ASD? No shit! Grin

(Reminds me to check Imogen's thread.)

UnChartered · 06/07/2012 17:57

Wine for bochead

letters after your DCs name, hey? Wink

check out any local support groups, some arrange activities for DCs with on-going assessments, not just dx'd

can't remeber where you are..PM me your area?

OP posts:
moosemama · 06/07/2012 18:03

Creatovator - ok I won't tell you then. Wink

Sadly there is far too much stuff to scan in, but you're right, I would look like a mega-organised super-mum if I did it. Hmm tempting ....

Bochead - great news on the dx. I don't know about you, but the temptation to dance around waving the dx at certain so called professionals, whilst sticking my tongue out and singing 'nah, nah, ne, nah, nah' was massive after all the years of being told there was nothing wrong.

Just had a comedy moment here. Ds1 asked me whether he should play distance or close combat in his ds game and dd chirped up 'play with the close wombat'. Cue ds getting really confused and saying 'what wombat' - 'the close wombat' says dd - 'there is no wombat' says ds - 'yes there is, the close wombat' insists dd. I of course, sniggering from behind my laptop screen, allowed this to go on for a wee while before intervening and explaining to them both what was going in. Fortunately, having been sedated by this ds time, ds1 didn't actually lose his temper with dd on this occasion and actually did see the funny side after it had all been explained. Grin

bochead · 06/07/2012 18:08

I loathe, loathe, loathe the paperwork and it was for me, the worst part of prepping for Tribunal last year. My home descended into hovel status around me, while I got to grips with it. It would take forever to scan all the crap onto my laptop - BUT it is a damn good idea! My sympathies go out out to anyone trying to organise theirs right now.

Do you think I'll get a visit from a caring carrot to help me come to terms with the DX now? (snigger)

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/07/2012 18:27

I'd fall over on those rollerskates within a minute, no problemo!.

Ellen - I hope you get the job. Good TAs are like gold dust.

Moose - hope things improve for you soon. Stores like Rymans to name but one have good quality stationary and lever arch type files in them.

Starfish - do keep us posted re appealing the crap statement you received.

Bichead - love the term caring carrot!. You may well receive a visit from such a bod.

Things have been okay here chez Meerkat this week and we're going to see Ice Age 4 tomorrow.

Not long now to go to the start of the six weeks holidays so at least the amount of homework being handed out now has tailed right off.

Y9 and options year in September, oh boy, but the Meerkats will cross that particular bridge when we arrive at it.

Keep calm and carry on is the motto.

Have a fab weekend one and all.

A x

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/07/2012 18:33

With you on the homework front, Attila. My heart sinks when DS2 gets a lot because it's HW for me as much as for him. My DS1 (NT geek) had his options this year, scary! DS2 is still in Y7, but it's already pretty clear that foreign languages are all Greek to him! Wink

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 06/07/2012 18:49

Hi everyone,

I love those roller skates Creato! But I too have a cautionary tale about skating and broken bones that you won't want to hear Grin skating itself was ok but I couldn't remember how to stop, so, i though what did i do as a kid...... Well I just sort of threw myself on the ground if it all got too fast. So I found out the hard way that 30 something's don't bounce like kids do.

Uncharted - what a nice present. How lovely of the dinner lady to do that.

Ellen, fingers crossed you get the job. They would be lucky to have you!

And everyone else, hi and sorry, I'm having trouble keeping all the news tied up with the names...

I'm so glad this week's over. It's been the week from hell at work, I've worked long hours and dd has picked up on my stress and that combined with me missing 2 bedtimes and her starting transition to yr2 has tipped her over the edge. School have even noticed her anxiety (they usually see a completely different child to the one we have at home)

I got her report today and it's really lovely. The teacher really gets her and it shows. I haven't met the new teacher but its going to be a tough act to follow. At least her current teacher is the SENCO so dd will still see her Grin. Some of the assessments seem a little low based in what she does at home (but that's normal for dd

Oh and loving the close Wombat Moosemama Grin glad your DS could see the funny side

insanityscratching · 06/07/2012 18:49

Can I ask for ideas? Dd's boyfriend starts chemo on Monday as the testicular cancer is aggressive and he has tumours in his kidneys too. Would like to send him a bag of stuff that will be useful and maybe fun just to let him know we are thinking of him. He's a lovely lad who has even won round dh and that's no mean feat tbh where dd is concerned.

LollipopViolet · 06/07/2012 19:11

Hi everyone!

OK, big news!!!!

I HAVE A DEGREE!

I got a 2:2 which I am thrilled with after all the nonsense with chicken pox last year and coming back to finish etc.

I am the first student with my level of visual impairment to EVER graduate from my degree course!

I went and signed on today though - although Jobcentre advisor was lovely, made a note of my sight and the lack of driving licence, told me I need to try and get my BD8 form replaced with a CVI form, and told me how to do it, talked about access to work, starting my own company, and also sorted out my jobseekers agreement with me.

Genuinely interested in what my degree was in and our aim is for me to get into that area (TV/Film production), or start my photography business, but in the meantime, I've applied for a travel agent position, to start with - as I LOVE helping people find holidays and love seeing the world.

hazeyjane · 06/07/2012 19:13

Insanity, when I was on chemo some friends sent me a bag of treats, in it there was - a mix cd, chocolates, a poncho (it got cold sitting having the chemo), a book and some book tokens, a little neck cushion and a magazine subscription. The bag was also lovely and became my going to hospital bag.To be honest I wouldn't have cared what was in the bag, just the fact that my friends thought to do it was lovely. Good luck to your dd's bf.

I am Envy of the roller skates, and the fact that you can roller skate, I am rubbish at things like that and would make absolute tit of myself if I tried!

hazeyjane · 06/07/2012 19:14

crossposted - big congratulations, LollipopViolet - well doneSmile

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 06/07/2012 19:22

Well done, Lollipop Violet! Thanks Congratulations.

Insanity, maybe some posh freetrade chocolate, iPod packed with his favourite music, nice man toiletries, books?
