My daughter has grown out of 2 AFOs that she has for her mild CP. Her physio says they are of no use to anyone else so no charity etc would want them. While one was made especially for her the other is a generic one so seems such a shame to bin it. Does anyone know anywhere I could send them so that they may be used abroad or recycled etc? Thanks

i would be interested if you do find anywhere, my son is in AFOs and about to get his second pair. it used to frustrate me no end that his old talipes baby boots for his bar were just discarded, i am sure somewhere could make use of these, even if its another country!

If you go on Special Kids in the UK www.specialkidsintheuk.org/forum/forumdisplay.php/32-Public-General-SN-Chat there is someone on there I think Cariad takes AFOs and other disability equipment to Ghana two or three times a year. HTH

Yes Cariad takes them and they are remolded/reused.. a fab way to pass on equipment.
I have a stash collected from my son and from others at his school ready to pass on to Cariad:)

Thanks all- will take a look! (and mention it to her physio who said no one wants them!).

Have you checked with the orthotics dept at hospital ours has a 3rd world box. They take AFO's on the theory that they are better than no AFO's at all for some children in poorer countries.

I'm pretty sure I asked the orthotics man at her last appointment but will check again when go for physio at the same hospital this week.
