Just had a phone call from the hospital we are going to this aft, it turns out that the consultation appointment which I thought we were having is actually a see and treat, so would possibly have treatment today.
I want to know whether Botox would be suitable for DS he has quad CP more dyskinetic than spastic however he has an extension pattern which makes him go tight when he tried to do something. Would the Botox help that? Surely the extension is a brain thing not a muscle thing, setting off for appointment in 1 hour

It won't stop the extension patterning as that is a brain thing but it will help if the muscles are tightening up. It will only helped the muscles it is directly injected into though.

Botox has been excellent for DS twice but I thi k he would have been better without his third dose. At the time it helped too but we saw reduced muscle strength after that, muscle fibres he could scarcely afford to loose. Having said that, after the great success of the first two times it was a sensible decision to give it to him. First time DS became aware if his legs, he kept looking at thin in wonder! Second time e started to walk independently.

It needs a general anaesthetic though so I'd be surprised if they do it today, occasionally they do it with sedation but I'd push for a Ga, the needle is massive and it needs to be injected precisely.

Good luck with the decision.

Thank you hairy I did manage to read your reply before we left, the consultant we saw was very good, and said she didn't think that rushing into things at this stage would be beneficial at this time, but will review in 4 months (with splints which I forgot) she discussed about muscle wastage which is a consideration but if needed he would have a very low dose.
Thanks again for your fast reply
Thanks
