my support worker refered to me to greenfell, she said they can help me with housing issues. i live in a 2 bedroom rented house with my 4 kids, one has autism.we live on first floor with no lift, carrying a twin bugy is a nightmare on the steps and my son is always running off because his behaviour is unpredictable.i would really like your views on what to expect,i have been to council but nobody has been able to help me.

Is it this ?

The main project looks like it's for single people, but they may have some other schemes not advertised on the website.

Shelter might be better. Their advice line is very good. 0808 800 4444, and it's freephone (even on mobiles usually). Down side is that actually getting through is a PITA.

TBH your best bet might be to see if your DS with ASD is entitled to DLA and blue badge (sounds like he probably is).

More cash means you can possibly top-up housing benefit a bit, and getting DLA helps housing to recognise his disability as significant, so more chance of going up a priority band or two.

Hi, we had simialr issues with housing 2 years ago, we needed a 3 bed house as dd2 (ASD) needed her own room, we had a fight on our hands but eventually got there and the council let us have a small 3 bed. We had to get letters from GP, OT, Pead, Nursery/school and at first we were turned down for a 3 bed (told we were making it all up), i phoned them almost every day to explain our situation, in the end we changed to another area (neighbouring area where we have family), sent all the info off to the council and they excepted that we needed a exra room and we were placed at the top of the list, within 2 months a property came up and we got it.

You should be able to push to be made priority for a larger property, gather up as much evedence as you can and bombared the council with it, keep phoning them (really piss them off), hopfully it will pay off.

Also getting a social worker on your side would be really usefull.

Good luck xx
