Well after a long wait we have finally been given a statement for DS 5.5, which is great, but the bad news it is only 15 hours, which I don't feel is enough. I think he needs more than that. I am going to appeal to ask for more but don't have a clue to what I have to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

15 hours of what? Babysitting? SALT?

What oes the wording actually say?

Have you looked at the IPSEA site.

Sorry should have put that in.The statement say 15 hours per week of learning support assistance. The senco said at school that it would be broken down into 10 hours of a 1:1 and 5 of general support he already receives

Thanks I will look at their website

What does the statement actually state? Can you quote it directly?

What do Parts 2 and 3 actually state?.

Support anyway needs to be both specified and quantified.

www.ipsea.org.uk is IPSEA's useful website.

Hi I am looking at part 3 and is says:

Funding and Resources
DS Individula Education Plan will be designed, delivered and monitored by school staff in consultation with parents and other professionals. In order to implement DS Individual Education Plan 15 hours per week of learing support assistance will be required. The deployment of support will take into account DS needs and the school's existing support arrangements, timetable and organisation.

Then it has a bit on montoring his progress with anual reviews. Also mentions termly reviews with the school.

Okay.

So you HAVE to go to appeal anyway really. That wording will not guarantee your Ds even 15 hours.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/06/2012 15:20

That seems all very wishy washy and with no mention at all either of any 1 to 1 or even who will help.

I think contacting IPSEA or SOSSEN will be beneficial to you.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/06/2012 15:21

I'd reject this document because the support is not properly specified or quantified as required in law.

Sorry I only stated the last bit of the statement. There are 6 objectives laid out that need to be met laid out over 3 pages, it seems really through, I am just not sure 15 hours are going to be enough as he is going into year 2 and his levels of attainment are only P2 or P3 in most areas. I think I will have to call IPSEA and read it through with them to see what they think

Thanks everyone, that is what I thought it was not specific enough. Our head at the school is great, and said he is going to get a 1:1 for him, but my worry is that if it is not stated directly then it can be taken away if say the head leaves and a new one isn't so willing.

Don't listen to anyone who promises what the statement 'means'. If that is what it actually means then hey won't mind writing it clearly then will they?
