Hiya,

Bochead i was searching for info on the 5P Approach & came across a thread you started last August.

Did you ever get your hands on the book?

If so,did it help?

Any other parents use this approach?

Its being used with my Ds7 (ASD& ADHD) & seems to be working so thought i would read up on it.

Whatever works!!

Teacher used it in ds's class and was quite effective.

www.5papproach.co.uk/ (A brief explanation of the method & samples of the worksheets your school maybe using can be found here).

It's essentially "ABA lite" in a politically acceptable and easily digestable format for mainstream schools. I really like it and with my sample of just one child can say it's been a great success, largely due to the ease with which consistency of approach has been achieved.

My recent "wow" post can be attributed to this method. We've used it primarily to help DS recognise first his own & then other people's emotions.

For £20 it's a good investment. www.jkp.com/catalogue/book/9781849050388

Thankyou for replying really,appreciate it.

My Ds moved to AS school last Feb. The difference in him is amazing! I think this approach&OT as well as holistic therapies have helped manage his very extreme anxiety &in turn behaviour.

Hes 7 & i have been told hes uneducatable& uncontainable!! It took 3 months at his new school before he started to respond.

It was like a switch has been turned on his head!

He is actually looking forward to going back to school on Monday- normally this weekend would have been spent with him in total melt down....Right now hes marching around the house singing!!

I will look up the info.

Thanks again.

Anxiety was the key to DS's massive behavioral issues. He could bolt for England!

I will say though that we use it at home & school with joint targets to ensure 24 hour consistency on some stuff. That makes the magic work faster as the child is getting constant reinforcement for those positive behaviors and aids generalisation of newly aquired skills; )
