We disappeared for a while. Life got physically rather hectic and difficult in real life so I hid for a bit.

Anyway yesterday I think we finally got a diagnosis. We dont have an actual piece of paper yet and may not get one but I have got what I needed for now.

Someone - our NHS psychiatrist from CAMHS - visited DS (who is now 4 years old) at home and immediately said that he has ADHD and needs medication. He was climbing all over her, being rough with her, being rude to her, climbing the furniture, falling off things, flitting from thing to thing.

Anyway, whether or not we get a formal diagnosis yet, we got the recognition from someone senior and respected that my son has a serious condition which needs help and is not caused by us. Im over the moon.

Give me a week or so and i'll crack on with getting the piece of paper but for now Im Smug Grin - well actually im not smug, im just bloody relieved, shocked, happy. I still think he has ASD/PDA but I think he is so high functioning that that wont get noticed.

That's good news, keep requesting autism assessment too and they might now take you up on it.

ASD often gets easier to spot once ADHD is controlled.

I'm really pleased Smug that you have got a dx. Well you know what I mean, happy that you have finally found someone that listens to you.

Same here - I knew mine had asd - ADHD dx first then controlled and the asd cane shining in through - the child at 8 is completely different to the child at 4 so if you do feel asd then keep going.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your thoughts.

The NHS have taken us to hell and back trying to get even some explanation, diagnosis, recognition. Literally Hell. I have no idea why we had to go through hell just to have one person suddenly turn up and say what is wrong with him within 30 seconds. They seemed shocked that all the other professionals had seen DS like that and effectively ignored it.

DS starts school in September and although we have a note in lieu of a statement (whatever that means) but the Area SEN Co says my DS does not have any special education needs. The reception class teacher will NOT be attending our CAF meetings, some kinda parent liason officer will have all discussions with meregarding my son. "The teacher is there to teach".

Anyway, im rambling.

Thank you all.

Well done smug. It's hard. I know exactly what you mean. We got dx a few weeks ago. DS1 is 6. It's such a relief to know it's not me. except for when the original psych still thinks it's me, although says he does have probs but not ASD. well we have the paperwork now. but can you believe that the original psych will not support us if we choose the dx route? how can you not choose that route? nhs therefore are still putting us through hell even now. Having said that every other prof involved in his care was as glad as me that we got the dx.

if your DS has no SEN then why the note in lieu? they don't even assess unless there's a valid reason ive been told.

teacher is there to teach, and to look after all the needs of your child be it social emotional and wellbeing. those things all contribute to education IMO.

Oh Smug! I am so pleased for you :)

I remember the hell and back you are on about and I am so glad someone saw through the mist for once!

Ineedalife · 08/06/2012 21:39

Hi smug, I am glad someone has finally taken you seriously, it makes such a difference doesn't it.

I agree with Jerbil though why would they have issued the NIL if there were no issues. Methinks you may have to do battle with the school bods. SorrySad

Good luckSmile
