Meeting with LEA Named Officer - refusual to issue SEN

They want a meeting, have agreed to go but with a SNAP (parent partnership) rep.

I asked what the agenda was as I have told them that as soon as I receive Note in Lieu I am appealing. The reply is it is just an informal chat and to discuss DS's needs can best be met.

I have sent email back saying main point I want to discuss is that without a SEN DS can't access an ASD unit in a mainstream school, as recommended by Autism outreach and EP.

Have I done right thing?

Yes. It will be a waste of time for you probably in terms of moving forward. Make sure you write the minutes as you go along. Ask them to be read them out at intervals and a copy photocopied at the end for you all to sign perhaps!?

You could take your appeal documents tucked into an SEN COP.

Is this meeting happening before or after they issue you with the NIL?

It is after, NIL should be with me by 15th and meeting on 26th.

Think it will be a waste of time but think its a box I have to tick. Would like to have my appeal documents ready by then. Can I do this without seeing the NIL?

Just had an email from autism outreach teacher, saying she is making visit priority after half term and if I am really struggling to email over holidays. There are some really good professionals out there!

Thanks star, will def make minutes and get them signed after meeting.

This might sound really paranoid but have got DS2 annual review on 27 June, they won't try and bargain or anything stupid would they? I am getting paranoid aren't I?

Maybe they think I am greedy with having two children with special educational needs!

Bump.

I will have to wait to put appeal in until I have received NIL won't I? How much detail do they put in them? Appreciate any info, thanks.

I think you do have to wait till you got the NIL starfish.

I know when my proposed statement (wasnt a NIL tho) arrived, I was told I would have to make them finalise it so I could start the appeal process.

starfish71 · 02/06/2012 22:05

Thanks coff33pot, I am just impatient to move forward!

Well you can start making some of your arguments and Puting them down on paper etc. reading cop, researching etc.

starfish71 · 02/06/2012 22:30

Thanks starlight, I will start organising my arguments.

.Am trying to find out % of children turned down for statements that are currently not able to attend school, will carry on looking!

Freedom of information act request. They'll say this data not routinely collected, but it should be quick to collate, therefore would qualify I think.

starfish71 · 02/06/2012 23:43

Thanks mariamariam, so request it from the lea.? Will get onto that, thanks.
