Any of your kids have fun with a metal detector?

Thinking with ds and his interest in gems/rocks etc and all oddments he finds on his way when out lol that I might buy him a metal detector for his birthday next month.

Saw a man on beach 2 days in a row and ds was avidly following him with his spade to dig treasure lol

Saw a National Geographic one for only £20 and wondered if that would be a good start off.

Are they easy to use? He is going to be 7

We had quite cheap one many years ago when the children were about 8/9.

I used to throw a handful of coins out into the garden and they would search for them.

Kept them occupied for hours

How did you know that was my plan!
