Who to talk to about funding for an IPAD?

I keep reading and hearing good things about IPADs for children with SN. DD had a go on SIL's IPAD and I was amazed at how good she was at things like a handwriting app, she really struggles with holding a pencil so it was really confidance boosting.

Does anyone know if I could get funding for this? Was going to email the SENCO at school but she is fairly new to the job and not sure if this is in her remit anyway. Next on my list to call was the local children's centre but then I thought it may be quickest just to ask on here first!

Have already sent application to family fund for some garden stuff other wise would go there.

there may be a local charity, I know there are some local to us, not sure how you would find them though.

how much have you applied for on ff? when we applied it was just for a carseat, but they said we would be eligible for a further £400 on top of cost of carseat.

Thanks hazey I think you may be local to me we are at same hospital iirc from the bumpy path thread? It prob is worth me asking the local support group leader though perhaps good idea. I asked ff for holiday vouchers too as it was first application.

Thanks 5inthebed, cerebra lady coming out next wed to do DLA renewal forms so I can ask her then good idea.

dd got hers through local communication aid resource centre. They are part of NHS I think. Try asking about communication aids at your local PCT.

Sneezecakesmama · 25/05/2012 20:34

Don't bother with writing directly to apple though. Friends of a little boy with CP got no joy at all. Told they don't give this way. Other ideas sound good though.

What is the family fund and how do you qualify?

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 25/05/2012 20:50

family fund are really good, think you have to get tax credits to qualify, info on the site.

is there anyone you can ask about local charities, there's one near us that will help that is just a very small charity.

used2bthin · 25/05/2012 21:13

Thanks cansu we have a local communication centre but they are about to be shut down sadly. However they may know about local funding maybe so I will give them a call.

I will try the local support group as the lady who runs it knows lots about local stuff.

Round table/ rotary like to support local kids and sometimes have pots of money they are looking for a good cause to apply for

used2bthin · 27/05/2012 09:00

Thanks supermum98 I haven't heard of a local rotary club but will google and then perhaps see if I can get someone to write to them on DD's behalf if it looks promising.

I have heard IPADS can be used as communication aids too, really think it could benefit DD.
