Does anyone know if it would be possible for me to get a grant for a mattress for Dd1 ?

She is 14 and has Scoliosis. She is on a waiting list for surgery.

In the last couple of months her pain has got alot worse, especially in her ribs and hips. She needs a new matress, and because of her back, it needs to be a very good one, and they are expensive.

I was just wondering if there is anywhere that might do grants to help with things like this ? Even some money towards it would be a huge help.

Yep, we got a grant for one from the Family Fund. We didn't need a special one and they gave us £100 for one as part of our grant.

Otherwise can OT provide one?

I think the family fund only grant things if you are on dla, and dd isn't.

She also doesn't have an OT or anything. Tbh, other than the very rare appointments with the consultant, we get nothing else at all.

is a mattress topper worth a thought?

sorry, I don't know how appropriate a sugestion that is, but maybe a good quality memory foam mattress topper, which would cost far less than a new top quality mattress, would help in the meantime?

LOL silverfrog, it wasn't useless at all. She has already got a mattress topper, but said that she doesn't find it that helpful.

I am also considering getting her some crutches, as she is struggling to walk sometimes.

Can you not apply for DLA as she sounds in pain and not sleeping I would not be surprised if the care you need to give is exceeding the minimum required as well as the mobility part.

Ah, Ok. I have back pain and our mattress needs replacing but I refuse to buy the cheap one that I can afford as I need a really good one. As SF says a mattress topper can be really good. I bought one from Argos which was about£60 for a double one. They have single ones for about £35 on there which have very good reviews. It has revitalised our mattress.

A couple of people have suggested applying for DLA, but when i had a quick read up on it, it didn't look like she'd qualify.
Mind, you she has got worse since then.

Sorry xposts.

this doesn't say that you have to be in receipt of DLA
