Hi is there anyone out there with a child with this condition. My daughter has been diagnosed and we have just had a statement awarded for her for secondary school next year. She has NLD (non verbal learning disorder), Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia. It would be nice to hear support from other parents experiencing similar challenges especially on the social integration side. Hope people can help, thank you.

Hello irrol, welcome to MNSN. Smile

My ds's dx hovered between NVLD and AS for a while, until he did the ADOS tests and it was confirmed as AS. Even then the Psych emphasised in her report that his particular area of weakness is his non-verbal skills and recommended that we read some books on NVLD for strategies to help him socially.

As I understand it, a lot of the social integration/communication issues are very similar between NVLD and AS, so you might find it helpful to read some of the ASD threads as well.

Do come on the "Friday night too tired for .... " thread as well to introduce yourself and get to know a few of the other posters. It's just a friendly general thread where we all either moan or celebrate our weeks and share plenty of virtual Wine gin and chocolate. Quite a few of us on there have children with various social/communication problems as well.

Yes my daughter has this dx before ASD one. They are similar and it is considered a spectrum condition.

Hi moosemama and wasuup3000, many thanks for your replies. I will try and join the 'friday night too tired for..' thread as soon as possible. I have been reading about NLD and am aware it is very similar to AS and need to get my head around how best to help my daughter. Thanks for advice always welcome.
