DLA and contact with the school by phone rather than letter

Heard today that DLA have phoned the school for more information (to be answered there and then) with our DLA request. Is this normal? I thought they wrote to the school for information and also sent forms? I notified the teacher we were applying but didn't think to warn the SENCO, who doesn't really know my DS and his needs either, so feeling a bit worried. DS's needs are also less so during school hours than outside school, for many reasons.

They phoned my son's school. He'd only been there a couple of weeks and I'm not sure sure to this day who they spoke to. We still got DLA awarded though HRC & LRM. Don't worry, I'm sure it will be fine. Smile

I haven't heard of this before. We asked the SENCo to send a statement anyway so they didn't contact school again.
Perhaps someone else knows more.

Thanks for your replies- just wondering if anyone else experienced this?
