Thank you for your help the other day with regard to sorting out DS IEP.

I am not convinced that the school is able to put in place everything that my DS needs and so I am considering moving him for Y5 and then again for Y7.
I am also hoping for either a bursary or scholarship.

Does anyone have any knowledge of the following schools that could advise with regard to dyslexia.

Colchester High School

Holmwood House - Colchester

OrwellPark - Ipswich

Oxford House - Colchester

St Josephs College - Ipswich

Thank you.

My sons went to Holmwood House. I know that Holmwood has a specialized dyslexia unit, but don't have any personal knowledge of it.

It is a nice little school, but the most expensive in the area. It also caters for children up to Yr 8. So know need to move once in. Can't say that I like the Headmaster very much (previous head retired while my kids were there). I found that he wasn't very helpful when it came to the money side of things, unlike previous head. I had to remove my kids due to divorce and ex wouldn't pay fees - previous head probably would have helped me keep them there.

Colchester High School (preschool to Yr 11) is a nice little school as well. My eldest went there for yr 9-11. No specialised unit as such, but quite a good SEN department. (Eldest has Aspergers.) He got on well, and any issues we had were dealt with promptly and efficiently.

I would steer clear of Ipswich School. We tried to get eldest in there, but weren't interested when they found out about the Aspergers, however No2 DS went there and did really well. (DS2 had no educational issues.)

Hope that has helped.
