Ds1 has been awarded hrc and hrm DLA. We got the letter on his birthday. There is no end date on the award unlike the last one. Is this a mistake or are things changing? I tried calling but its very busy at the moment.

I have heard things are changing. Adults on DLA will be changed over to I think the new name is personal independence payments (PIPs). So in theory DLA will be replaced with Pips for young people, which require assessments.

My DS got his award last July for the first time at the age of 11 and his didnt have an end date either, I never got round to querying it and just assumed that it would be until he was 16 (he is now 12)?

Mmm... DS is only 7 so i dont think it will last that long.

DD aged 27years has just got her DLA indefinitely last week. I am puzzled as we didn't even do a renewal form.Like magso I would have thought she would have to be assessed for P.I.P. Am wondering if this is an error

jandymaccomesback · 23/04/2012 16:32

We haven't got an end date on ours. DS is 17 and we only applied when he was 15. I must admit I assumed we'd have to reapply at 18.

devientenigma · 23/04/2012 19:08

although I don't have the paperwork through yet, this is DS 3rd renewal age 11 and his is awarded (or so I have been told by phone) 17th Aug 2017, he has had hrc from 3 month and hrm from 3y.

we recently got ds2's award through with no end date - we thought it wss because he was turning 16 and classed as an adult

nothinginthefridge · 23/04/2012 20:06

We got our DS through in February. He is nearly 12 and has an end date of his 16th birthday, so there are some awards coming out with an end date on them.

Dreamstosell · 23/04/2012 20:50

My son's first award was for three years then renewed last year (aged 7) with no end date. I phoned to query this and was told no end date as it had been awarded indefinitely and they would not be sending any renewal forms.

Galena · 24/04/2012 12:42

We had an indefinite award last year for MRC, reapplied in Dec for HRM as DD was approaching 3, and were awarded MRC and HRM until she is 16 and a half.

They do say that they reserve the right to check at any time though - so maybe it just means they'll send 'renewal' forms when they fancy, rather than at a particular time (if you see what I mean?!)

Dreamstosell · 24/04/2012 14:44

Galena I had wondered about that to! Can't really believe they will just leave us alone till he's an adult. But I live in hope!

Have got through to the helpline. They say the award is indefinite which is a big relief.
