We have been through a long road with dd and she is just about to enter mainstream school. We will be moving on from her early years team who have been amazing. I wondered what gifts you would like to have or have given as a thank you.

Perfume, a handbag, beauty voucher. That's what I have given as gifts, in the past.

Best gift I got years ago was a voucher for a local pharmacy chain that carried nice cosmetics, perfumes, bits and bobs. Still have some of the nail things I got then- stuff I wouldn't buy for myself iykwim. And I still think of that child and wonder where he is now when I use them.

Well, at Christmas we buy those 1.5 glass bottles of sparkling wine for a couple of quid. The kids design name tags for them.

Then we make salt dough and cut out shapes. We pierce a hole in them and tie a ribbon on. Then we paint and glitter shape and stick a pic of the kids in their school nativity on the shape (tree Dec) and varnish before looping over the little bottle.

Done this a few times at various settings and staff seem to like them. Might just be being polite though.

I had a SLT for DD who I hated. But seeing as you have to play the game and I didn't know if we'd end up with her again, I bought her a small black suede bag with a heart zip pull on it. She cried. My work was done. Bitch.
DD's infant school TA was wonderful and I will be forever grateful to her. We bought her a Radley Bag. She cried, I cried. Her work was done. Because of her work with DD she went from being a TA to working with stroke victims and taught them to speak again.

At Christmas. I make chocolates and buy Xmas tree dec each for teachers and TAs.

Aww, Sally. I got M & S vouchers for my DS's cash strapped TA when she was made redundant left when DS moved up to secondary.

SallyBear · 19/04/2012 21:03

And Ellen, I bet she remembers both of you with love. Smile [heart]

I had a lovely mummy who bought me a couple of necklaces (M&S I think) at various points. Whenever I wear them (not at the same time!!!) I think of him. Wine is nice but I do think something to keep is good. Same mum bought me a voucher once as well which was lovely but the necklace was definately a winner as it was personal. I bought my son's TA a rose which was his name and she's planted it and apparantly it has survived and flowers prolifically so maybe seeing if there is a nice plant with a name or an attribute that would be suitable.

To be honest, any acknowledgement is lovely.

I've bought necklaces before too! I went to One of those huge shows at the NEC where they were selling 4 necklaces for a £10! Very handy when you have twins!

our salt is lovely, for xmas my ds made her a 'pencil pot' with lolly sticks from hobby craft and alot of glue! we put black biros and in it and hey presto- one happy salt!
we have just got her a virtual pressie from oxfam unwrapped for her wedding, I really wanted a goat but ds said she is pretty and needs a pretty present so we compramised with the 'education for deprived children' complete with a pretty notebook. we havent given her it yet, so not sure on her response!

Summer123 · 20/04/2012 22:18

Er, no presents are necessary I think!
A short conversation to say thankyou and to give them an idea of the impact of their work is sufficient and highly valuable to their sense of job satisfaction I think.

Thanks all. Will have a think :)
