Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

As there are lots of new people - shall we have a good/bad equipment thread.

I remember when I first came here we had one of these threads and it was really helpful to me. Everyone shared their good and bad equipment, therapies etc.

For us (ASD)

Good things -

Blu tak, special gold cushion and packed lunches (for dealing with school issues).

Hand held computer games (sanity savers, when eating out or at functions).

A large secure garden (physical activity a daily must do!).

A classroom assistant sitting right beside him to keep him on task. Sadly only a couple of hours a day.

NEXT soft waist band boxers, despite the price because he keeps them on!

Portable DVD player.

Bad things-

Anything made of real wool.

Labels on clothes.

The education system in general.

Love the special gold cushion. My DS sits on a cushion with his picture on it at school.

It was VERY special! Gold tassels for him to fiddle with. School was slightly Hmm about it and the blutak - "what will happen if everyone wants some?", but were happy enough when the realised it helped him stay still (suggestion was from us not them). He had a major gold/shiny/gemstone thing till age 12.

voidka.... I'm looking at a weighted blanket. Can you reccomend a good supplier? They would need ton post aswe are in Aus?

Ds has a bit of everything mild cp, ASD global delay but mostly doesnt sleep! dr suggested he may be a sensory child and therefore benefit from a blanket...
