Tax Credits - been cut, but what about Disability Premium?

We have Tax Credits of about £45 per month, I phoned after our DLA award letter came through, and was told we'd get a disabled child premium (DLA middle rate). I thought this was about £53 per week? This hasn't been credited, and we still seem to be getting the same amount of money.

Now we've had The Letter telling us we are no longer eligible for TC - how does that affect the amount we'd be not getting due to DLA MRC?

I phoned, but due to noise of kids and poor phone reception I couldn't really get my message through, and could hardly hear the person on the phone.

Is everyone over 26K joint income getting their TC cut regardless of SN issues etc? We are skint due to commuting costs of £450 a month Sad and really can't afford any more cuts to our income....

Put your details into here and see what it comes up with. I used it and worked out that we might still get something with income of more than £26k although I am counted as disabled so whether that makes a difference I don't know.

Also, I am a bit Sad that we have to make a new claim because I didn't contact them before 31st March. I am drowning (aren't we all?) so I wish we could get a bit of leeway re this, as they have our details on file still.

I'm writing a letter to them now to get clarification - in writing is always better than over the phone. Wish I could just email them - I don't have a printer, so it's a trip to the library with noisy kids and disapproving stares to do this. Annoying.

article in Guardian today
I haven't seen this issue highlighted but I guess if you are not eligible for TC anymore perhaps you do not get the disabled element.
Pretty shocking if that has gone through without any press attention.
'Entitled to' is another website where you can type in details and get an assessment.

Why would you have to make a new claim if you are already in receipt of TC?

MummyPocPoc · 05/04/2012 19:25

I have to make a new claim because I had to phone them to keep the old claim going before 31st March, but due to everything going on here I didn't Sad. Old claim is now closed, so I have to do a new one.

Just checked on Entitledto website, it tells a different story to what the TC advisor said Hmm so I've written a letter to TC office to check rate of award from date of DLA award to 5th April this year just to see what's what.

We also lost tax credits as income over £26,000. As we were on flat rate minimum (c.£40 per month) getting DLA MRC didn't make any difference to the amount of our tax credits. I'm not sure if you should have been getting some/all disability premium as your credits were higher. You would need to check that and get it back dated if necessary. I can't understand why there has been no publicity about this. Last year they cut tax credits for those earning over £40,000 in total. But there is a huge difference between over £40,000 and over £26,000. I consider myself quite clued up about benefits and the cut-off letter came as a complete shock to me.

DP is on an OK salary on the face of it - but that doesn't take into account the massive amount of train fares we spend monthly after he was made redundant. Now he earns slightly less, and works considerably more hours (all unpaid overtime which annoys me Sad) and is away 14 or 15 hours a day.

I am also Mrs Clued up about benefits etc and really got a shock. We need this money as we our outgoings are more than incomings and we spend nothing, have no new clothes, no holidays, and certainly no spending benders in Primark on shite.

Am just annoyed as well as concerned.
