Easter Holidays

How are your Easter Holidays going so far? The weather has been great, so the kids have lived outside and had picnics for lunch. DS3 who a month ago wouldn't have entertained eating outdoors sat with his siblings and their friend eating sandwiches (a first and NT for my ASD boy!!!) on the climbing frame platform. It was heartwarming to see. Hoping for more firsts over the holidays, he is now giving hugs and kisses - that was my Mothers Day present from him Smile

Ours hasn't been too bad. DS2 and I went to visit MIL (without DS3) yesterday, so he was thrilled to have his nan's attention all to himself. DS3 gets to go there with us when DS2 is in school sometimes, but DS2 never gets to see her anymore without DS3 in tow. So it was a nice change for him. Much less stressful and we had a lovely afternoon (and DH got some 1 on 1 time with DS3 at home).

Today we're going to B&Q to pick up some planting/gardening stuff, to make a windowsill garden, which DS2 is going to help with. He seems fairly pleased that we're going to be doing it, so fingers crossed he enjoys it.

We have a few different things planned, but have to temper it by watching expense as well. Also making sure he has plenty of time to run around the garden and use up some energy.

All in all, not as bad as last holiday, but it's early days still.

Hope everyone is doing well.

we're only on day 2 but so far so good. we didn't leave the house yesterday and DD didn't even get dressed. no pressure, no reaction!

we're using the PECS/schedule to plan each day the night before and now on a countdown on the white board to easter day itself.

it took me 2 years to realise DD hated eating outside, but she will now do it happily, picnics are now fun!

SallyBear · 03/04/2012 09:15

We are off to Willen Lake today for a play date for the older 3DC. DS3 loves being free outside, I just prefer it in a confined space where I'm not constantly stressing that he is going to have an accident. So this afternoon's activities will demand at least a glass of Wine when I get home tonight!!
Hopefully he will sleep well. Smile
It's nice to see the others having fun with their friends, and hopefully one day DS3 will have a friend too. At the moment he just loves spending time with me, the tv, the dog and the sandpit!

Yesterday was awful, I was totally unprepared for dds wanting me to do lots with them, and ds being even more clingy than usual, went to the park to feed ducks which went well until genetics nurse called for a pre appointment chat, which turned into 40 minutes of family history, pregnancy history etc which left me nearly in tears whilst the dds fed ds rusks and fed the ducks the crumbs - grim!

So I have sensibly made a plan for today, a friend is coming over later and we are going to the swings.

Roll on Easter weekend and a ton of chocolate eggs.Smile

Good idea UnChartered about the PECS planning timetable.

Hazey. When are you seeing the geneticist? Annoyingly that they always want to see the whole family. Maybe thats just my family! Probably because two of our kids have a form of Treacher Collins Syndrome. Hmm

So I sprang a surprise visit to Chessington on my children yesterday. We had an appointment in the morning, and we were close by so I thought why not.
We got back in th car and I told them we were going to do something that was a surprise. I thought I was on safe ground as DS loves Chessington.
A great time was had by all.

hazeyjane · 03/04/2012 09:40

We were supposed to be seeing Dr Kini at John Radcliffe, but they called yesterday morning to say they had cocked up and we would be seeing a Dr Harrison at Great Western in Swindon. Hopefully the girls can spend the morning at a friends, they are a nightmare in appointments, especially dd2, who freaks out in hospitals. It must be very hard to have to take all the dcs!

SallyBear · 03/04/2012 09:46

Isn't that closer for you Hazey?

Alison, what a great surprise! My kids would be ecstatic if I did that for them! Was it heaving??
Legoland used to do end of season days which were stupidly cheap, not sure if they still do. My DS3 didn't enjoy Disney in Florida last year, so I think it will be a few years before we attempt that again. Sad

Sallybear, We bought annual tickets last year and they run out on 21st April, So we are trying to get a bit of use before they expire - I may try and go again next week if we get a fine day. It was busy, but not as bad as I have seen it so we went on a few rides with short queues, and met some of their school friends who were there for the day as a birthday treat for one of them. Having the annual passes is good, as if you are organised ( not us yesterday) you can get there early as it opens, go on the rides before the queues build up, wander around the zoo bit, have a picnic lunch and leave before it is heaving and the crowds are getting to us. You don't feel like you have to stay all day to get your money's worth, so for us it is much better value to do these short trips as it reasonably close by.

hazeyjane · 03/04/2012 14:53

Oh dear trip to the park cancelled because ds fell on to corner of scooter, leaving a huge bruised egg of a lump and a very grumpy ds.

Fortunately friend bought cake.

SallyBear · 03/04/2012 17:51

Cake makes everything seem less horrid.

Poor you with the snow and no power!!! I was just happy that we missed the big rain and hail bombardment yesterday on the way back from our trip to the Lake! I hope that you have a nice time at your friend's place Smile

So I must be mad Confused as I have just booked ALL four kids in for haircuts!!! I am going to drag the big three out for school shoes now, while DH looks after Alex. Hopefully he won't destroy anything while DH is on endless conference calls!! Hmm

Shoes went well though £270 later!!!! I had done DS3 6 weeks ago, so it wasn't horrendous as the other three had iPod, iPhone, iPad. I feel like I am single handedly keeping Apple's profits soaring!!

Haircuts will be carried out with the help of snacks, drinks and portable DVD player. That's just for me to get through the ordeal!!

Not just apple's profits. £270 for shoes...........aaaaarrrrrr

SallyBear · 04/04/2012 16:33

Its pretty horrendous I agree jubilee. School shoes x 3, trainers for school x 3, shoes for home x 2. They love me in Charles Clinkards. Funny that!

I hate shoe shopping Smile.
So instead we went clothes shopping Hmm after the row where "all my trousers fit LOOK!!!" - only about 3 inches too short but since they fit round the waist they fit!!! We managed to get skinny DS some jeans in next 2 out of 6 I managed to get him to try, once the elastic was pulled very tight.
I don't know what it sounded like from outside the changing rooms - he was trying them on saying " look I could fit a baby in here" holding them out like maternity trousers Grin - and these were the skinny jeans - obviously if you have skinny legs you have a HUGE stomach and bum. We managed to continue though and got tracksuit bottoms too!!!!
Hopefully that is that over for a good few months now.

SallyBear · 05/04/2012 17:12

I never take my kids clothes shopping, apart from DD. She lives for Next, H&M and Gap! When we were in Florida last year she discovered a teen clothes shop called Justice. Nuff said about that!! I was pretty skint after that jaunt!!
I tend to buy Gap for the boys as they are all long and skinny (unlike their Mum!), as they fit and wash well. I am a member of Gap VIP which gives you 20% off about four times a year, and they always have a mini sale every 2 months.
Loved your description of the changing room. Braver mum than me!!!!GrinGrin

Hi everyone.. we're just back from Eurodisney. We had a good time. DCs liked it and had some fab times Grin. DS took some time to get used to everything, but loved the swimming pool with waterfall and stayed outside for fireworks (a first and he's 10 yrs). We bumped into Mickey in the shop so didn't have to queue to see him. Priority ticket for DS was great. Cabin was upgraded free of charge - we don't know why Grin Grin. When things got too much for DS we found folk who were really helpful. DH or I were able to cope, but not both at same time, so took it in turns. We did self catering so got a bit of the French experience... lovely Pattiserie and lovely cakes (cake definitely makes everything better Grin).

Destressing and getting back into British mode now.

Glad for the good times folk have been having. Sorry to hear bout the weather - ours was good, so feeling chilly now.

Great news about firsts for folk.

Well done for haircuts, shoes, clothes shopping.

Hope I haven't missed anything. Sorry for long post.

SallyBear · 05/04/2012 18:53

Sounds like you had a fabulous time. I love Disney! Littlest DS couldn't cope with it all last year, or the year before so I will wait another year before we try again.

Shame that the weather has changed so much in a few days, but I wont let it spoil things as I'm looking forward to a lively and lovely Easter weekend with family and friends. Smile
