I've used that analogy for years, so much more sensible than the maudlin 'Holland' references. Thanks for finding a more eloquent description, it may make a few people think a little more deeply. Certainly using the cat/dog comparison helped several of my relatives understand my son and our life a little better.

Way better that truly terrible Holland piece. My DS's HT told me all about a terribly moving poem written by a Mum at her school. Apparently it was all about dealing with disability and loss by using the analogy of going to Holland on holiday instead of Italy. I told her that it sounded really lovely, whilst thinking to myself that it was fair play to that mum for hoodwinking the HTGrinGrinGrin
