DS3 aged 5 with ASD, deaf and no speech is going in tomorrow to have a General Anaesthetic to have refraction eye drops put in. Not looking forward to keeping him away from food and drink for the best part of the day....
It may seem extreme doing it this way, but as he is longsighted with a divergent squint and astigmatism, he really can't cope with the stingy drops, his pupils dilating to the point that he can't focus and then some bugger shining a light in his eyes! Less stressful for all of us really. Just need to get passed the cannula bit part first...... Yikes!

Good luck. Little DGS 3.5 had an op recently and they fumbled getting the cannula in but he didnt make a sound, he was so good. Had to gas him in the end which he didnt like, but the cannula site gets anaesthetic cream on so maybe distraction and he wont feel it?

Oh and sunglasses after as the dilating drops can take up to 24 hours or more to wear off - been there and had them!

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate your good thoughts. Smile
Sneezecake I have the sunglasses in my bag! We've done it twice before with him, but it seems harder now he is 5. His sister has had 26 operations and counting, and that does not get any easier each time Sad
Anyway, I will have plenty of distractions at hand in the run up to the procedure including some movies on the iPad. So hopefully with that and playdo....!Wink
