Birthday Blues

DS2 was 2 years old yesterday, we are having a family party tomorrow.
I am finding the whole birthday thing a bit more emotional than I expected.

It just feels so bittersweet. I really thought he would be walking by now, but he's not. In my head I always thought he would walk by 2.

Last year was hard, he couldn't sit up unsupported at his first birthday. But, he has come on a lot since then so I didn't really expect to feel this sad.

Going to have to paint on a smile tomorrow.
Is it just me or are birthdays tricky? Does it get any easier?

IME it gets easier. My daughter also wasn't walking at 2 and we had a small party with Grandparents for her birthday.

She will be 14 on sunday and is a very loud, lively teenager. She has SLD and attends a special school where she has a peer group of close friends. Next weekend we will take a little group to the cinema. I think as children get older you compare them much less with others of the same age and just see them for being their own wonderful individual. Hope you enjoy the party Smile

I think on the whole it gets easier, dd3 will be 6 at the end of the month and I think the earlier birthdays were the hardest for sure. This year I'm struggling a lot more what to buy her than anything else Smile

happy birthday to your ds hellen and to your dd vjg Smile

I find birthdays really tough, ds is 5 & it hasn't got easier yet tbh. Though I find the build up far worse than the actual thing & ds has always ended up having a great time.

This year I've decided to take radical action & we're going on holiday for the week of his birthday (centreparcs which he loves) - thereby avoiding the whole birthday party/appropriate behaviour/woe is me another year past etc issue.

I hope your ds has a lovely day :)
