Call for submissions to Commons inquiry into LGO

There is a thread on here already about submissions but I would very much like to try and put something together.

MPs are to questions the LGO and have asked for submissions by 23 March - see [http://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/communities-and-local-government-committee/news/local-government-ombudsman---tor/ here]

Please PM me if you would like to be involved. No specific case examples but we can draw on our experiences to pull together issues which we feel need addressing and to make recommendations.

Hope to hear from you!

If you do have time to contribute, some appropriate issues to look at might include your LGO experience. For example:

Do you feel they understood the law?
Do you feel they understood the duties on local authorities in respect of SEN?
Did they acknowledge duties under the Equality Act?
Do you think they tried to see the issue through the eyes of the child receiving the service?
Did they make reference to your child's needs?
Did they take on board your child's rights under the Education Act and Equality Act?
Did they refer to the 'best practice' standards they expect to see in place?
Did they look at the system operated by the LA? For example, in failing to arrange provision cases, did they consider what system the LA had to comply with their legal duty?
Did they make reference to their own guidance on administrative practice?
Did they find maladministration and/or injustice?
If not, why not?
Do you feel they made excuses for the local authority? Why do you feel this?

Is it too late to pm you the answers to some of those questions tomorrow?

appropriatelyemployed · 18/03/2012 18:16

Absolutely not. No, do PM. I haven't done anything to put things together yet.
