DLA - what else might we be able to claim for?

We've just been awarded DLA for ds who is 6 and has Cerebral Palsy. We got HRC and LRM. We are on a low wage and struggling a bit as I can't find work that is flexible enough so just wondered if this would entitle us to anything else. I can't find any other information on this and it's all so confusing Blush

I think there's a different rate for child tax credit (unless the government have axed it Hmm). I'm not sure about housing benefit. Your local council may offer help with transport to and from school also.

Try the family fund for a start. www.familyfund.org.uk

Just looked at my bank account and after informing tax credits we have just had a payment of quite a few hundred pounds. Only took just over a week following decision on DLA (hrc, lrm)

Also you might want to think about carers allowance.

Ok thanks I'll phone tax credits just in case. Transport to school isn't an issue as we live opposite it luckily. Cheers for the reply Smile

If you get high rate care you will also qualify for carers allowance, the form is easy to fill in nothing like the DLA form and it will be an extra £55 a week, not much I know but better than nothing.

You could try going to the directgov site www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DG_4018866 and clicking on what benefits am I entitled too. I had a friend do this the other day and she folund it very easy to navigate and quite helpful.
