Have any of you had your child assessed at Elliot House? I'm looking into a private assessment following the fiasco of our local Child and Family dept, and would like to know of others' experiences there. What does it cost, and can you refer direct or has it to be via a GP?

Tried, because we lived a few streets away. They only assessed children from abroad, or with a consultants referral.

hijack- you ok jimjams? Read about Ds3 on behaviour and 'not pointing'. All OK? Thinking of you.

We also tried and were told they did not accept children from areas which had their own diagnostic process.

Yeah, we're fine thanks- he's sending out very mixed messages! He's absolutely brilliant at imitating, reaches for things he wants, is very sociable, but is joint attention is, frankly, crap! I'm giving him until 15-18 months, will then refer on and maybe get pyramid involved early. Hope it doesn't come to that.

JJ Just read about ds3. I am glad you will be taken seriously. Don't let anyone try to reassure you its ok if your gut feeling is otherwise.
DS4 was not pointing at 18 mths, also crap joint attention. I broght it to the attention of pre school services and was told not to worry. "He seems fine". Now at 4 we have a pretty big language disorder(receptive most affetcted) and asd (although thankfully appears mild). The paed commented in Jan that we seem to have been let down by system!

not sure what my gut feeling is to be honest. If he is autistic he is definitely higher functioning than ds1 and his understanding appears to be OK. He's very different personality wise than ds1 and ds2 (who are quite similar), so I find it hard to judge! I think by 18 months I'll have a clearer idea.
