Good Snacks for ADHD DS on meds?

Im concerned about his weight ...he lost a little initially (DS is on 20mg Equasym XL) but is now staying the same each week but the docs want him to put weight on.

He just doesnt want to eat and Im finding it really hard and stressful .... he was always such a good eater and its hard to adjust.

Is there any 'good' snacks he can have? He can turn down biscuits lol but we try to give him protein or carb based snacks etc but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I gave my DS a complan milkshake made with full fat milk for his before bed snack, 3 times a week when he stopped gaining weight. He has ASD, rather than ADHD and isn't medicated, but he's very very active and it kept his weight up and didn't seem to fill him up. I stopped after 6 months or so.

thanks Selks :)

We got the cheese strip things (by Dairylea) but I dont think he likes that so we'll need to get some normal cheese string things.
One minute he'll like babybel and the next he wont ...grr lol.
Not sure he will try the yogurts (we always have plenty in the house) but has them with his meds so guess it will depend on his mood.
Never thought of nuts .... he's not alergic to them so will definately try the almonds and brazil nuts etc ....what about walnuts, do they have the same nutritional value as those you mentioned?
We just got a jar of peanut butter but thats very very tempting to mummy lmao.
Not tried him with pate but will give it a go.

We also give him popcorn cos he loves the stuff and never turns it down but that doesnt fill him lol.

Some good ideas ....thanks.

Complan, comes in chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, chicken. My DS preferred the chocolate and strawberry.

Yes walnuts good too. As are roasted peanuts but watch the salt content.

Peanut butter is good as is nutella Blush for weight gain...I have a great recipe for a chocolate cake with nutella if you want it?

Also try thick milkshakes?

Would he have greek style yoghurt with honey spooned in it?

My ds1 is very Hmm wrt cheese too...will have it on cheese and tomato pizza but if I suggest if on jacket potatoes or toast he looks at me like I am mad!!! Smile

I think cashews are one of the most highly calorific nuts IIRC.

Have you tried sweet popcorn as a snack/whilst watching TV??

Would he eat pannacotta? (baked cream) Very high in calories (and sooooo yummy!)
