Has anyone any one experience. DD emanuelle syndrome has this. Finally brilliant paed has listened to me. Surgeon has said as she will not use "her lady bits" like the rest of us providing I keep her scrupiously clean there should be no problem! However school feel this could be a child protection issuet and I loathe struggling to clean her, she now acts like an abused child this has been documented in notes at my request.
I now think we have 2 options 1)massive surgery or 2) easy option colostomy. Has anyone been down this route help needed.

Hi there

Sorry to hear your daughter is having problems with this. My DD (2) was born with imperforate anus and recto-vaginal fistula and had a colostomy at 5 weeks old, the pull-through op (PSARP) at 6 months and then the colostomy reversal last Sept and is doing very well with her new plumbing. I can imagine it must be a nightmare with a 6 year old. Personally I found the colostomy not too bad to deal with but then DD was still quite little. The pull through op went well and recovery wasn't too bad and the reversal was similar - I look on it that we are trying to give DD the best possible opportunity to achieve continence. Hated having to put her through the op's but I hope she'll think it was the right decision when she's older. With DD the fistula wasn't coping so there was no option but surgery.

There is a very useful thread with lots of parents with children of varying ages with similar issues which might help you here
