Dd4 has asd , GED, hyper mobility , a growth problem and trouble with her eyes .

She also has a twin brother (ds4). He is bright for his age and nt .And has also started asking questions about why dd4 is different .

How do I explain asd to him ?

I tried telling him that dd4 just thinks a little differently from him , that her brain works in a different way , but he wants to know why ?

Dh has told him dd4 is special and needs her brother to be kind to her and help her sometimes.

Ds4 just got upset and told us that he doesn't get why she is special , and why dont we think he's special too? . He has also said in he past that everything we do is about dd4 ...I suppose he's jelaous, in a way, of the attention dd4 gets.

He has also said he hates that dd4 is his twin, and we should have just picked him, instead of having two babies. He wants his own birthday , and is asking if we can tell people dd4 is younger than him ,5 instead of 6 .

Help ? How do I Handle this ?

Hi Droves, It's tricky isn't it - DS2 has Aspergers and DS1 sometimes gets fed up with everything seeming to revolve around DS2 and that his needs or wants come second. I try to avoid using "special" because I think the meaning can come across to young siblings as somehow "more important" . I told DS1 that we are all different, just like we all like different things etc. There are some good books out there, have a look on Amazon or the National Autistic Society website (some leaflets on there are free! Smile). This one is quite good www.amazon.co.uk/My-Brother-Different-Children-Sister/dp/1899280502/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1330243607&sr=1-1 or this one
