Usually on here moaning so thought I would redress the balance a bit. Had a meeting yesterday afternoon with ds1's teacher, the autism outreach team the SENCO and the SALT. And they're all really pleased. The school have said they are stunned by the level of support they have been given, and that they've never had this much support for a child before, they said ds1 is a sweety and they're really pleased with how he's doing. He even asked for the toilet using a PECS card yesterday (his LSA was out of the room so he asked the general class TA). So all is now going really well. The SALT has put a system in place for "scoring" how he does on his SALT activities each day (between 0 and 4 where 4 is needs lots of physical prompts and doesn't really understand what he's doing- and 0 is did it all himsefl perfectly).

Apparently he has a cushion he sits on at circle time (to get him sitting down I guess) and all the children try to sit near him. At break time they get him to give his apple pecs card to a different child each day for the child to give him the apple and apparently all the kids fight over that as well.

So we're pretty happy.

Jimjams, my first MN visit today! How wonderful that he used his PECs with another adult. Sweet too that the other kids want him to give them his apple PEC. Other (young) kids do seem to like PECs and signing. I've got a lovely idea of him in my head on his special cushion
