Motability - something I didn't know

We are on the verge of returning our Motability car and going off the scheme for various reasons. I have spoken to Motability quite a few times over the last few weeks and they are always extremely helpful and kind BUT one of them told me the other day in passing that, if we were having trouble making up our minds what to do or sorting out another car we can have a six month extension! Why didn't anyone mention this before??? So of course we will take the 6 months and then see where we are then, we'd be mad not to.

I think if you do less than 15,000 miles per year you can keep it for another 2 years? Have a look at the mobility website under how the scheme works and then click on latest news.

Yes, my experience of Motability is that they will bend over backwards to be helpful :) There might be lots of rules that are not in the small print. At least you know now :) I'm pleased for you!

Yes, I think there are quite a few unpublished rules. They are there because they understand that 'one size doesn't fit all'.
We had to end a contract on a car a year early as we could no longer lift DD into the car and had to get a wheelchair accessible vehicle. We didn't relaise that we would get back 1/3rd of our original advance payment on the car we were returning - had thought that once that was paid, that was it - so that was a lovely surprise.
There has been a lot of talk lately about the changes in rules of the scheme because of abuse by a small number. However, the letter we got did say that if the new rules caused you difficulties to get in touch and they would see what they could sort out on an individual basis. They really are there to help those who need them.
