Afternoon all

Well, this sort of is a follow on from another thread about vitamins and how they affect our dc's behaviour.

I've just come back from the Health Food shop and i'm so pissed off with the reaction I got!

I originally went into Boots and asked if they sold Zinc and Magnesium for children and they were quite polite about it and said that they didn't but I should try the Health Food shop. And so I did.........

This is the same place I bought the Eskimo oil from and the woman in there was really friendly and helpful then. Today however, she decided to treat me as 'paranoid and gullible mother'. I said "excuse me, do you sell Zinc and Magnesium for children?" She looked at me like i'd just said "excuse me, i'd like to give my child arsenic............can you help?" After this glare she finally spoke "why on earth do you want to give your child Z and M?"Angry My back went up immediately and I just said that it was something I was interested in trying and then quickly left , feeling completely deflated and actually quite stupid, which made me even more angry!

Am I missing something? Have any of you been faced with this kind of hostile reaction?

I don't really know what i'm supposed to do now. Was really looking forward to giving it a go.

I just ordered the stuff online from the reccommendations of Tinsley House and the other Mums on here that way you know it is the right stuff as it has been tried and tested. I definitely wouldn't trust a member of staff in the health food shop as they might not have relevant experience in this particular area. I know you are busting to get started but if you order online it will only take a couple of days and at least you know you will be getting quality stuff.

HolyCalamityJane · 16/02/2012 13:54

Oh and YOU ARE NOT a crap mother!!! Forgot to mention that Grin

cornskilt · 16/02/2012 13:54

I got some osteocare zinc and magnesium from waitrose - 3 for 2 at the moment. What do Tinsley house recommend?

HolyCalamityJane · 16/02/2012 13:57

cornskilt Have a look at Indigo's Tinsley House link. It's all on there.

cornskilt · 16/02/2012 13:59

thanks I'll have a look for it

I only went back because the woman was so helpful last time and seemed very educated about supplements etc. When I said that I wanted to try dd on Omega 3, she said that a lot of mothers had had a lot of success for their dc's who had dylexia, ADHD and other related problems. I think I just assumed she would be less judgmental. She also said this time that it would be dangeorus to give dd Z and M and it's much better to give it her in her dietHmm I never thought of that!!!Angry

crap mother? definately not! crap sales assistant? definately YES

all vitamins and minerals are best given through diet. She is just stating the obvious but due to her tactless earlier comment its bound to put you on the defensive. Some people have poor diet due to food intolerances, some are picky eaters and some have been ill and therefore need a vitamin boost THAT is what they are on the shelf for. Omega 3 has made a difference in DS with concentration and I am very pleased with it. Unfortunately Epsom salts didnt do a thing for him but rather than poo poo it I would say he is that hyper when he is stressed it is even too much for the epsom salts! Grin

Me I would walk back right in there and take some off the shelf with a "dare you to open your mouth again" look Grin

bochead · 16/02/2012 15:43

Magnesium (Epsom salts and then supplements when £1 a bath got too much) took 12 solid weeks to work for DS coff33pot.

I usually allow a minimum of 3 months to "Test" dietry changes and their effects on DS.

Did you give it this long? If you did then ignore me.

coff33pot · 16/02/2012 15:53

bochead no I didnt give it this long at all. I perservered with the omega oils as it was in addition to his multi vits but not the Epsom salts.

Started xmas due to how over the top he was and continued over the hols and the first part january so about 3 to 4 weeks in all, but you would think he was in an ordinary bath of water to be honest. Now I am thinking that maybe he is VERY lacking in magnesium Blush

Think I might start again with this thanks for that info :)

detoxneedednow · 16/02/2012 19:36

Thanks everyone. I think i've probably over reacted really, I just wasn't expecting her to be so rude. Needless to say, I wont be going in there again!!

I've heard lots of postive things about Epsom salts. What do they contain and what are they supposed to be particuarly good for?

Its the magnesium in them detox so when put in the bath as a bath soak the magnesium soaks into the skin. :)

A lot of people have used them on here. I am certainly going to restart now for a longer period.
