cutting nails tips please

can anyone give me any tips. my dd is 10 and has afetoid cp so she has lots of extra movements. I have always struggled to cut her nails. she just goes mad and screams. It hasn't helped that because of this a couple of times I have torn them and that must have hurt. I have tried everything I can think of. Everytime they start to get long I just live in dread.

Our 16month old daughter wont let us touch her hands as she has ezcema. She will touch ours. Anyway we usually do hers when she is asleep at night. We are lucky that she doesnt wake. You could try this but may not be as successful as she is 10. We also file them rather than cut them.

DD always wakes up if I try this in her sleep - she has a "thing" about her hands being touched. But she is mildly curious what you are doing at first so I find you can cut the first nail with relative ease. After that it goes a bit pearshaped. So I just do one at a time - I do it at nappy change but it could be mealtimes or some other time she's preoccupied: get in, do one while she's working out what you're up to, save the rest for next time.

keep trying when asleep even if she wakes at first. Also try to do about half an hour after she falls asleep when she's in a deep sleep. Get one of those little maglites you can hold between your teeth - or a miners helmet!!

just to update you all. I managed to do it today. i just cut one nail and showed her. I managed one hand until she lost it so will try again another time, I think she liked the fact that she was in controll and I stopped when she wanted. Thanks for all your advice.
