Ds is now 12 (suspected AS) and we have had years of problems at various schools and had to battle to get anywhere. Had ADOS test a while ago and was told it was negative and given a dx of 'behavioural difficulties' . Have had to deal with useless Senco's with poor strategies e.g stand in painted box in the playground with all the kids looking at you etc... We were due to see Camhs in the hope of getting a dx but then due to job situation recently had to move 200 miles away from friends and family. Ds doesn't like change so this was obviously unsettling, had a few problems at new school and now he is on reduced timetable. However, the support from new school is incredible - they do what they say they will and Senco really knows her stuff. They called in EP straight away who has seen him twice and Complex Communication/Autism specialist who has written a report which is spot on about his strengths and difficulties. She feels there is AS and 'something else' going on and we now have referral to specialist team to try to get a dx. She said that it may take a while (up to 6 months) to get a dx as they like to assess over a period of time to get it right and apologised that we have had to wait so long to get anywhere
. Can't believe what a difference it is here to where we lived before - light at the end of the tunnel at last.
