which means health professionals smile benignly when I talk about them and recommend a parenting course. Is it really just my crap oarenting or does this happen?

Imogen, true about the 'I wants' however it is perfectly valid to use it in two key ways.

I expect ds to have his needs me and be safe in school psychologically as well as physically.

And

I expect ds to receive the support necessary to access an adequate education.

Its taken me about 7 years to finally be taken seriously, my "model pupil" Ds has now been diagnosed as having Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD and ODD. You have to be prepared to fight the system all the way, we're waiting now to see if we get a statement for Ds. Having a high IQ is a problem, it doesnt matter that he cant talk to people easily, has meltdowns at the drop of a hat, physically harms himself when stressed, I could go on and on. We belong to local groups now and yes everyone has the same problem, we parents dont know our children!, the so called experts know all. We as parents are the experts and understand our children. keep fighting you will win in the end. xx
