How long for camhs appt?

Hi, We're going throguht he diagnostic process with my 5 year old for ASD. He was referred to the asd team at camhs in November, I received a letter the week before Christmas with a questionnaire asking me to return it so he could be put on the waiting list for an appt.
I'm sure this isn't a question that could be answered nationally, but just wondered how long the wait is generally? Seem to be in a bit of a waiting lull at the moment, waiting for DLA, waiting for meeting with special school and this too. I'm possibly impatient!

Im in scotland, think for cahms i initially waited for 2 months then a nurse came out to house with form asking lots of questions (possibly form youve had posted to you), then put on waiting list to see psychiatrist which i was told would be 3 months, however just before 3 months was up my situation got a lot worse and i i called them explained i was on waiting list etc and situation was now XXX, they dealt with me right away. DS goes to special school though he's almost 11 now, going back think only waited couple weeks to go see school and immediately after he went to nursery there from like the next week, (only one day a week and i went too). As for dla you could phone them and ask where your application is in the processing order, wouldnt do any harm. Good luck with it all Smile

We are similar situation to yourself, It took from May 2010 and lots of appointments (Paed, OT, Physio, SALT, Ed Pysch) before he was put on the waiting list in July 2011. We have also completed the questionnaire and have been told anything from 12 to 24 mths.

Suppose it depends on your area, ring up and enquire how long the list is that is what I did.

Down here its was a serious case of nagging! once DS was referred that is.......

Referred around end jan/feb first week april was appointment. Forms given and filled in plus school did there part and then a long dragging wait. I must say that some of the wait was for camhs to visit school and compile their own report and wait for a multi agency meeting with regards to referral for pathway but it does drag. And it will if you let it.

I just phoned up politely every time there was an issue at school asking advice on this or that so he was never forgotten. It took till end oct/nov for him to be finally assessed.

Thank you,
I'm seeing the SENCO tomorrow so I'll ask her how long the wait is typically in our area, could kick myself now as I rang camhs to ensure they'd recieved the questionnaire and should have asked when I was on the phone, really.

Rang DLA who said our claim is with the deciders or assessors, but wouldn't commit to how much longer, just that they'd recieved more information about our claim so it was being taken into account. I think as a lot of agencies got involved after we made the claim, they're having to wait on their statements.
Gotta go, meltdown on the horizon!
