My DSD has a metabolic illness and struggles to walk any distance. We applied for a blue badge before Christmas, and had the assessment on 20 December. We sent in our DLA application form on Wednesday and statementing has just begun. On Friday, DSD's consultant agreed that she now needs a wheelchair. I think the statementing is able to take account of this but can we update the blue badge people, do you think? And given that the DLA requires care needs to have been in place for three months, what happens there? Our consultant says most of his patients have to appeal owing to a lack of understanding of metabolic conditions. Is her wheelchair use able to feature in an appeal, given that it's so recent?
