Dd2 is 2.4 she has an awful habit of when you open a door in the house she sticks her finger in the hinge bit so obviously when the door shuts ( they're fire doors so shut automatically) it traps her finger. It hurts her badly as fingers are so small and she's done it again today resulting in screaming and badly swollen finger. She did it once on patio door and dh didn't realise and he slammed door shut cue blood tears and a trip to the docs.
I'm thinking maybe some sort of sensory seeking as she likes touching very hot things as well but I'm stumped if I can think of a way to stop this one

At school we have full length plastic door hinge side covers. They are curved, flexible plastic that are fixed to the edge of the door at the hinge side, and to the wall. They are flexible enough to let the door be opened but completely cover the gap. I'll have a google, don't know how expensive they are, they may be designed for school/institution use rather than homes.

Fab thanks Ellen we are in a HA house so will get onto them and ask if we can fit them ourselves as we will end up losing a finger otherwise! Thank you do much

Hope the HA are reasonable. What a pain that you need to get approval. How were they about stair gates? Xx

Chundle · 04/01/2012 17:50

They are fine about stair gates I think because its basically a given that everyone will want to install them.
It may be that they come and do it for free though if I ask them as they are pretty good and its a new build house hence the fire doors

you can also fit rubber stops to the patio door when its open to prevent little fingerss/hands getting trappped

Chundle · 04/01/2012 18:59

Thanks becca will have a hunt for them too
