SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Anyone else going through that horrid "wait and see" time with child and want to meet up for a cuppa?

Hi

Just feeling bit lonely and fed up tbh. Got lots of friends round me but as their kids are nt I just don't think they quite understand what's going on with ds. He is 3.5 years old and got significant language and speech delay. They all say to me "don't worry he'll catch up"...I know they mean well but they just don't seem to get it, or that it could be ASD as people have this idea that asd kids just sit there in the corner not joining in, they don't seem to realise how complex it is and that it's not necessarily like that. I mean I don't know if it is ASD or possibly APD which has also been mentioned but community paed taking her time with ds and seeing him every 6 months.

Just wondering if anyone else feels like this and wants to meet up to give each other a bit of support. I make a great cafe latte! I live in bucks - anyone close??

Not close I'm afraid. Have you looked into any asd groups in your area at all? Otherwise you might have to settle for virtual Brew Smile

Where abouts in Bucks? I am in Oxford and have a DD with "profound s and l difficulties which is now being written as specific language disorder. She has medical issues too and seems to have developed epilepsy. I was told that some children do grow out of this kind of speech and language disorder but we will know for sure when she is around 8! She is 5! Would love to meet up if we are close enough.

In Oxford there is also a great support group for parents of children with SN oj the first thurs morning of each month-can give you more info if its not too far away for you. And a few other more specific ones such as one for ASD issues and one for speech and language issues which I have been too a few times.

We're in a very similar situation - paed monitoring for a year now. S&L delay, traits of ASD (but definately not on the spectrum, though they're still wanting to monitor?!). We're in SE London. DS1 is 3.4.
