I met our new SALT today who had seen Katie at preschool last week. She was really positive and Katie was in the right mood and patiently sat through assessments and showed off her signing and receptive language. Her understanding and attention span were above average for her age but her speech is more like 1-2 year old than an almost 3 and half year old.

The SALT suggested cued articulation as Katie responds well to visual cues and signs and had a go with her. She could do some of the pure sounds that a 2 year old would be expected to do. We'll get some training at the same time as the preschool staff which will be good. She's also being signed up for a speech and articulation therapy group.

The SALT seemed fairly positive as well regarding the chances of getting a place at the local speech and language dsp, so fingers crossed.

All in all it was very positive and we are finally getting thorough and structured activities to do with Katie at home to help her. Still no diagnosis, although Verbal Dyspraxia was mentioned as a possibility. The salt felt that it was too soon to say.

That sounds great. My ds has verbal dyspraxia and responds well to cued articulation. You can get assessments from 3 - The Nuffield in London will assess at 3 and are an excellent place for advice.
