My DD has ADHD she has been having really aggressive and violent outbursts in school along with horrendous lack of concentration. Her behaviour at home is actually fine. We are moving her to a different mainstream school in Jan and if that doesn't work out she will go a special school. We have an appointment with a private consultant tomorrow who says she will be able to prescribe medication which I was surprised about as I thought she would have to be at least 6 or maybe 7?? So just wanted some advice and feedback really it is quite scarey!!!

I would medicate a 5 year old if I'd tried everything else, and either school or me couldn't cope.

Have you tried Omega (high EPA), Zinc and Magnesium?

Loads of studies showing that kdis with ADHD are likely to be deficient in Zinc and Magnesium, and giving them supplements helps.

I think it depends on your situation, as well as how comfortable you are with it. We are not comfortable with medicating our 5yo DS2 at this point, however, that is our decision based on a number of factors. I certainly wouldn't judge anyone else that felt differently.

Any reccomendations on the Omega brand to try the one I have is one of these orange flavoured kids ones and probably not doing much good. Was just reading about one called Esprico but think it might only be available in Germany??

I believe vegepa is the best omega supplement.

And then you also need zinc and magnesium and a multi vit.

I buy the Eye Q ones for DS who is 6 :) I have noticed a gradual difference. I wouldnt suggest the strawberry chewable ones they are disgusting. the smaller capsules for swallowing are much better :)

I am not in your position to medicate but if my son was at the point where I couldnt control him at home then I wouldnt hesitate. I wouldnt give him meds just to keep a school happy unless I was absolutely sure they have tried every intervention and catered for all his issues and took my recommendations on board first.

It really is a personal choice though and there is no good or bad choice :)

Hi, my ds is on Concerta for ADHD ..I could not believe the difference it has made to him and our lives...
I would perhaps try it and see - Most Ritalin is out of the body that same day - short shelf life so you can start to see a change very quickly - and equally stop very quickly - so you could just try it for a week and then re assess ?

Best of luck to you whatever you do ..Kids with ADHD are HARD WORK
