DS2 is 9 with ASD, mild cp. He has just said to me "my mouth had so much spit in it that i couldnt move my mouth or eyes & my body went all shaky"
So i started questioning him a bit more & he said he doesnt think he made it happen.
He thinks his hands and legs were bright red??? who knows what that means but hes not always good at expalining himself.
He felt like his eyes were really wide open. after a bit more probing he also said he felt like he was going to explode & his head felt like it was going to explode.

He also suffers high anxiety and has been complaining of not being able to swallow which i think is just anxiety so i suppose it could be a panic attack??
Any ideas?
He said it was at break time & he was in the bushes??

it sounds like he couldn't swallow for whatever reason and so felt as though he was going to choke on the saliva? tell him to spit next time instead?

the rest of it sounds like he went light headed from breath holding/ not being able to breath until his body over-rode the no-swallow thing and he did, which meant everything else kickstarted again because he could breathe.

i would do a basic first aid chat with him (does he go to cubs or anything?) and explain the whole breathing thing. unless you think that would make him worse? Grin

if he were mine (and i'm a bit mean) i might also tell him he can't play in the bushes until he's learned to spit, and remembers to breathe, in case it happens again.

he's very articulate! Grin

Does he have any allergies? could it be something to do with the bushes that he was playing in?

Just a thought. You might want to look at what kind of plant they are?

thanks all, i was thinking an anxiety thing making him go light headed etc. DH has just tried to ask him about it a bit more & hes under a blanket hiding now. But he said he's flet like it before but didnt want to tell anybody.

He has just got over a spitting obsession so we have been explaining to him when its OK to spit.
weve been trying to work out ways he can identify when he is getting anxious & how he can recognise the feelings.

He can be quite articulate with us at times but it all takes alot pf piecing together & probing to get any sense out of him and often the info all comes out but not always in the right order IYKWIM.
At school he really doesnt speak, I've called the school and the only thing they are aware of is that he got a ball in the face. He hasnt mentioned that but apparently it was at the end of the day so the two cant be related.

oh bless. are school aware that he hides in the bushes? they might want to keep an eye... esp if he is liable to having some sort of panic attack at the mo...

school are going to keep an eye out, the school field has a wooded area on the edge that they all play in, i think he kind of hangs around in there if hes not sure waht he is meant to be doing/playing at break times. Most of the time the field looks empty as all the kids are in the woods Grin

Usually (probably always, but theres always an exception!) when people fit in any way they cant remember what happened. Maybe he felt a little nauseaus as the mouth often floods then? Panic is certainly a possiblity. Hope he's OK though Smile

yy, would agree with szs. often people remember what happened 'before' (and some people learn to spot one coming with a particular feeling or sensation) but it would be v unusual to remember the entire thing afaik...
