Squint operation

My ds (asd 5) has been recommended for this operation. His eye tends to drift along at a slow pace intermittantly but this is now getting worse. Has anyone had this operation? Im not sure how to prepare him or what to expect after.

Ellie is going to have hers done, up to us to decide when

We got told she will just be a day case (and she can't play in sand for 6 weeks after, she won't be pleased!!!! )

I am sure somebody on here has a child who had an op for it.

Not sure who it was, but hopefully they will be long soon!

Thanks annie. He was going to wait but he's really struggling now to control it. His actual vision is perfect it the muscle needs correcting.

ds1 had it when he was 2 he's 4 now. we were out by the afternoon. his eye was very red as if he'd been punched in it but that was all. sadly the op didn't work too well and he has to have another one this summer. we have patched and are patching again. i feel like its never ending! feel free to cat me and ask me any questions as we've done glasses/patching/the op and are now seeing a fab consultant who finally makes sense.

Hi my dd isbeing patched, she is 6 now and consultant says its not for much longer and mentioned an op last time. for some weird reason dd's eyesight has got better through patching but the squint more noticable- doesn't make sense.
i am seeing a fab consultant though who seems to know what he is talking about.
my dd hates patching i can't wait till its over, i feel really guilty making her wear it at school, but where else in the day am i going to get 4/5 hours from.

there's nothing you can do you just have to work through it. the first time we patched we did it for 13 weeks because we were getting such good results. we have to do it again but this time just for 4 weeks. ds1 is actually very laid back about it and his nursery are fantastic in making a huge fuss of him. the problem is taking the patch off, it really irritates his eye. I do it in the bath actually and sponge it. he then takes it off himself. its a pain but you just have to do it. we have been told we will be doing short burts of patching until he's 8 and the eye stops developing. we are very resigned to it now.

She has patches and will only wear them over her glasses ! just as effective, also we have had patches that are for sensative skin they worked well.
