Family und, what did you apply for?

We have never applied before, but wanted to get the girls an ipad, mainly for dd2 as a communication aid, instead of juggling PECS.
We also need a tumble dryer as mine broke 6 months ago, which was fine over the summer but now taking ages to get clothes dry and they hate the feel of rough towels :(
Other thing I need is a new hoover.

Do you think they will grant any of these things?
I see you can now not apply per child just per family.

Yep, I think you might get those.

I got £500 in Thomas Cook vouchers (go on 6th Jan to Egypt!!!), £100 for a new mattress for him as he had wet it too many times, £100 in bedding (which includes towels) but they changed this so I could use some of it to buy the amazing Argos shadow light you recommended Grin and also £100 for lego to help his fine motor control and to try to get him to play.

The FF woman who visited said that the first award is £900 unless it is for driving lessons.

I've only had one application so far and lady came to visit me she said on first application they usually give you up to 800 pound ish. I got 550 pound toward a bubble lamp and 300 pound toward recreational activities. She said all further grants are around. 500 quid so on your first grant always put down everything you need as they may just give you it all in vouchers

I asked for a holiday to Forest Holidays and an ipad. They gave us both. £400 argos voucher and £500 paid into the bank for us to spend on forest holidays break. Fabulous!

You can print an application form off the Family Fund website. You complete it and send it off. They send someone out after about 3 months to assess you against their criteria of a severely disabled child - FWIW DS doesn't have a dx of ASD yet, just dyspraxia and SPD but he still scored in most boxes from what she said and he only needed to score in 3 of them. It is very easy and the people who come out don't want to catch you out, just to see what your needs are and suggest what else they could offer ie I didn't ask for Lego or bedding but she was looking for what she could offer.
